Yes, it’s that time of year again! Black Friday is already seducing consumers worldwide into making serious holes in their pockets. However, REI is taking a different hike on this chaotic shopping marathon. WhoWhatWearDaily reported on 10.27, that REI CEO Jerry Stritzke announced all REI locations will close for Black Friday - instead of working, he encourages his staffers to get outside and enjoy the outdoors!

"For 76 years, our co-op has been dedicated to one thing and one thing only: a life outdoors. We believe that being outside makes our lives better. And Black Friday is the perfect time to remind ourselves of this essential truth," Stritzke said.

REI will grant employees with a paid day off, and encourages them to step out and spend the day with Mother Nature. They’re hoping to get others involved by hashtagging #OptOutside on their outdoor adventures.  We love this and are eager to follow suit! We believe in the value of a little fresh air and we also think this is a BIG WIN in brand authenticity for REI.

What’s your weigh in?  How are you going to #OptOutside this Black Friday?
